Mark T. Sullivan (b. 1958) is an author of thrillers. Born in a Boston suburb, he joined the Peace Corp after college, traveling to West Africa to live with a tribe of Saharan nomads. Upon returning to the United States, he took a job at Reuters, beginning a decade-long career in journalism that would eventually lead to a job as an investigative reporter for the San Diego Tribune.
Sullivan spent the winter of 1990 living with a group of skiers in Utah and Wyoming, and used the experience as the foundation for his first novel, The Fall Line (1994). In 1995 he published Hard News, a thriller based on his work as a reporter, and a year later he released The Purification Ceremony, which won the WH Smith Award for Best New Talent. Mark grew up outside of Boston and says the best job he’s ever had was selling souvenirs at Fenway Park during his high school summers. He attended Hamilton College, graduating in 1980 with a BA in English. Two weeks later, he boarded a plane bound for Niger, West Africa, where he worked as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Agades, an oasis and trading center on the ancient caravan route between Tripoli and Timbuctu. Mark rode with Tuareg nomads deep into the Sahara, immersed himself in their culture and taught their children English in a regional high school.
Upon Mark’s return to the United States in 1982, he attended the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. He worked at Reuters, Ltd., as a financial correspondent covering the Chicago Commodities Markets from 1983-1984. He left to become a political reporter in Washington D.C., at a small wire service called States News Service where his role was backup reporter to the D.C. bureaus of the New York Times, Newsday and the New York Daily News. Mark T. Sullivan (born 1958)[1] is an American author who writes mystery, suspense and historical fiction novels. His fourteen published works that are written solely by him include The Fall Line,The Purification Ceremony, Triple Cross, Rogue and the USA Today[2]and Washington Post[3] bestselling novel, Beneath a Scarlet Sky. He has also written, as of June 2016, five novels with James Patterson.[4]
Biography and career
Sullivan was born and raised in Medfield, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston.[5] He earned a BA in English from Hamilton College in 1980. After graduating, he served as a volunteer in the Peace Corps, teaching English to children of Tuareg nomads in the Sahara Desert.
Sullivan returned to the United States in 1982 and studied at the Medill School of Journalism of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
He began writing fiction at 30, and his first novel, The Fall Line (1994), was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year.[
