Retired Brighton Mhlongo ventures into sports broadcasting
After an eye injury forced him to retire at an early age, former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana keeper Brighton Mhlongo is venturing into another journey.
Mhlongo hanged up his boots after a freak accident at training in 2021.
He was struck by a ball on the face and the doctors later declared him partially blind, sending him into a premature retirement. He was 30 at the time.
The Soweto-born shot-stopper started his football career at the now defunct FC AK before joining Pirates.
He later played in the colours of Chippa United before moving on to then Bidvest Wits. The status of Wits was bought by TTM, who later changed to Marumo Gallants.
At the time of his retirement, Mhlongo was on the books of Gallants and the parties were at loggerheads after the club terminated his contract following his career-ending injury.
Since he hanged up his boots, Mhlongo has been keeping himself busy by assisting on various programmes including at the Lucky Lekgwathi Foundation.
From May 1, Mhlongo will join e.tv’s The Morning S Former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo is the latest sportscaster to The Morning Show (TMS), which is simulcast on e.tv and eNCA.
