Christopher Maurice Brown (born May 5, 1989) is an American singer, songwriter, rapper, dancer, and actor. A pop and hip hop-influenced R&B musician who works in a variety of genres,[2][3][4][5][6][7] he has been called the "King of R&B" by some of his contemporaries.[8][9][10][11] His lyrics often address emotional and hedonistic themes.[12][13][14][15] His singing and dancing skills have often been compared favorably to those of Michael Jackson.[16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25]

Christopher Maurice Brown was born May 5th, 1989 in Tappahannock, Virginia. After teaching himself to sing and dance, Brown participated in local talent shows and his church choir as a child. His mother recognized her son’s gifts, and decided to help him land a record deal. By the time he was 13, Hitmission Records discovered this young talent.

Brown recorded his first demo while still in high school, and Hitmission shopped it around to New York labels. He finally signed with Jive Records in 2004, and soon moved to New York.

Debut
His self-titled debut dropped in 2005. The commercially successful record went to number two on the Billboard 200 and was eventually certified double platinum. It also contained his first number one hit, “Run It!” as well as three other top twenty

He got attention when he was arrested and convicted in 2009 for beating his then-girlfriend, Barbadian singer Rihanna.[8] He was sentenced to five years probation and six months community service.[8] He was also ordered to stay at least 300 feet away from her for five years.[8] Brown has bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.[9]
