Mithun Chakraborty
Gourang Chakraborty, popularly known by his stage name Mithun Chakraborty, is one of the veteran actors of Indian films. He is also a singer, producer, writer, social worker, entrepreneur. He is also active in politics and is a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament.
Chakraborty started his acting career in 1976 with the art-house drama Mrigayaa, for which he won his first National Film Award for Best Actor.
Recognized as one of the best "dancing-heroes" in Bollywood, Chakraborty is famous for his "Disco and Desi" fusion-style dancing. The dance form was popular among the masses during the 70s and 80s. Gourang Chakraborty was born on the 16th of June 1950, better known by his stage name Mithun Chakraborty; informally referred to as Mithun Da, is an Indian film actor, singer, producer, writer, social worker, entrepreneur and a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament. He is the recipient of three National Film Awards. He made his acting debut with the art house drama Mrigayaa (1976), for which he won his first National Film Award for Best Actor. He began his career as a junior actor and went on to establish himself as one of the lead actors in Bollywood. He is recognized as one of the best "dancing-heroes" in Bollywood with his "Disco and Desi" fusion-style dancing that is popular among the masses. Along with actor Raj Kapoor, Chakraborty is popular in Russia for his role as dancer Jimmy in the 1982 Bollywood film Disco Dancer.
