Amanda peterson obituary

In recent weeks Amanda Peterson, star of the 1980s teen movie “Can’t Buy Me Love,” was talking about a comeback. She had started writing an autobiography. She had a story to tell.

At her peak, the blond, blue-eyed beauty embodied the popular high school cheerleader many ’80s girls wanted to be. Peterson was winning acting awards, as well as earning TV and movie roles.

But that was 25 years ago. Lately, she was hoping to recapture some of that former glory.

“I talked to her about setting up a website, getting a blog going,” said photographer Ryan Hartsock, a friend whose 2012 photos of Peterson appeared in international news outlets after her recent death in Greeley, her hometown.

“She wanted to do a photo shoot, start blogging, start a fan page,” said childhood friend Tawnya Bowie. “She said, ‘I want to give back to the community, open an acting studio, help grow self-esteem for young kids,’ ” said Bowie, a Greeley hairstylist. “That would have been perfect.”

Amanda Peterson was born in Rochelle, Illinois and did most of her growing up in Moriarty, New Mexico. She was bitten by the writing bug early: writing for school newspapers, contests, and creating plenty of stories that never saw the light of day. As an adult, she has written Bible lessons for K-5th grades, newsletter articles, ladies' Bible studies, and devotional pieces. Her children's books focus on concepts that are difficult for children to visualize: things like faith and seeing God in the world around them. She is also branching out with a secular title about building character to be released in 2015. Amanda's Bible studies are also finding their way to the market. In 2014, she published "Becoming a Proverbs 31 Woman: Learning to Lose the Intimidation." It's a study about the characteristics of the Proverbs 31 Woman and implementing them in ladies' lives today. Amanda, her husband, and their three girls live near the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland with three adorable kittens and one cranky old cat.
