Kuala Lumpur:School history textbooks must reflect the cultural elements of all races in Malaysia, said MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai."The diversity of our multicultural society should be accurately portrayed in our children's school books," he said.He added that the textbooks should not only contain "Islamic culture".

Liow said that MCA would fight to ensure that history textbooks reflect the "full and unbiased history" of Malaysia."History must not be changed even if political powers do," he said, adding that attempts by certain parties to twist historical facts were "unacceptable". He also said that a Tun Tan Cheng Lock Research Centre would be set up at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman to study and compile the history of the Malaysian Chinese in Malaysia.

KUALA LUMPUR (June 25): MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai today rejoined the cabinet after an absence of 13 months.

Liow, 53, who hails from Melaka, made his debut in the cabinet in 2008, holding the health portfolio until the 13th general election last year.

He stayed out of the cabinet in accordance with a 2012 MCA decision to reject all government posts, should the party perform worse than the 2008 general election.

The decision was rescinded at an MCA extraordinary general meeting in February this year.

Prior to his cabinet appointment, Liow was made Deputy Youth and Sports Minister in February 2006.

He successfully defended the Bentong Parliamentary constituency for four consecutive terms since 1999.

Liow holds a degree in Food Science and Nutrition from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and was head of UKM Chinese Consultative Council.

His involvement in politics began when he joined MCA in 1981 and later became the personal assistant to MCA Deputy President Tan Sri Lee Kim Sai from 1988 to 1989.

Dr Wee pays last respects to mother of former party president Liow Tiong Lai

PETALING JAYA: MCA President Dr Wee Ka Siong paid his last respects to former party president Tan Sri Liow Tiong Lai’s mother who passed away in Melaka.

In a Facebook posting, Dr Wee penned a moving tribute to the late Yap Kim Pee saying: “Madam Yap was a remarkable woman who raised six children with her husband. Many of them enjoy successful careers and contribute greatly to society in their respective fields, including Tan Sri Liow who was the MCA president, Bentong MP and the Transport Minister.

“Her legacy will undoubtedly live on through the memories and the love she shared with her loved ones.

“May you rest in peace, Madam Yap,” he wrote on Friday (Sept 20) evening.

Dr Wee alongside a group of MCA leaders paid their last respects to Yap in Jasin, Melaka and were seen comforting Liow and his family during this difficult time.
