Ron Borges
American sportswriter
Ron Borges is an American sportswriter for the Talk of Fame Network.[1] He has previously written for The Boston Globe, the Boston Herald and was a regular guest on The Mike Felger Show, which aired on 890 ESPN radio until July 2008. Borges also was a regular contributor to the HBO.com's Boxing website until 2008. Borges also writes for The Sweet Science, a boxing website.
Awards
Borges has been named Massachusetts Sportswriter of the Year by the National Association of Sportswriters and Sports Broadcasters five times since 1999. He also holds the record for most first prizes and overall awards in the annual competition of the Professional Boxing Writers Association. He has also been awarded a half dozen writing awards in the Associated Press Sports Editors' annual competition and his work has been included in the annual anthology "Best Sports Stories" eight times. Ronald Herman Borges went to be with his Lord on Friday, August 28 in the company of his beloved family at his home in Danville. Through his 25 years as a California Highway Patrolman and in service to his church and community, hundreds were touched by his loving manner and "Borges hugs".
Ron was born and raised in Oakland, CA to John and Lydia Borges, second generation Portuguese-Americans. He attended Fremont High School and entered the Navy shortly thereafter. In 1966 he married Clare Riesterer of Sublimity, OR and the couple purchased a family home in San Lorenzo. There they raised four children and were very involved with Calvary Lutheran Church and the local community, which Ron patrolled for many of his years. He retired from the CHP in 1993, and shortly thereafter moved to Danville. In his retirement years, he served as a minister at Oakmont Mortuary in Lafayette, where his remains will be buried.
Ron is survived by his wife of 49 years
