This week I’m bringing you a conversation with Lotta Jansdotter, the Brooklyn-based Swedish designer of items ranging from home goods to textiles.

On this episode we discuss her new book “Lotta Jansdotter Everyday Style.” The book contains her first collection of  five clothing designs and includes patterns for a skirt, dress, blouse, pants/shorts and a jacket/coat. This book, which also includes tutorials for fun accessories including fabric necklaces, totes and scarves, is unique in that Lotta tells the story of each project and includes photos of her sketchbooks and studio for a bit of a behind the look at her life as an artist and designer.

A Letter from Lotta Jansdotter

Born on an island in the middle of the Baltic Sea in Scandinavia, the textile designer Lotta Jansdotternow lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Her eponymous company has been going for 20 years and she has produced countless designs and motifs for fabric, home wares, paper goods, bags, rugs and much more.I have taught my print making techniques and held workshops in many different places, in my studio here in Brooklyn of course, on a lovely roof top terrace in Los Angeles, in a big shed outside in the remote country side in Gujarat India, in barns in Scandinavia and in an old factory garage with no walls in Merida, Mexico. But I have never taught in a castle, in France... I am so delighted to be invited by Selvedge Magazine to Chateau Dumas this August to teach and share what I love to do: create and print patterns and motifs onto paper and fabrics.
