Five things to know about dancehall artiste D’Angel
D’Angel entered the dancehall scene in the early 2000s and has not looked back since. Dubbed the first lady of dancehall, the artiste has made her mark in the industry with several hit singles over the years.
Born Michelle Downer, the entertainer from childhood knew that she was destined to be on stage because, at an early age, her friends and family would often serve as her audience as she practised her vocals while entertaining them.
D’ Angel sang throughout all of high school as she was a member of the St Catherine High choir.
Upon entering the working world, the artiste did not immediately choose music. Instead she moved to Kingston to pursuit her modelling career with the popular Miguel Models.
She drifted from her musical pursuits and entered the world of glitz, glamour and couture when she landed a modelling job in the early 90s. Strutting runways and landing alluring photo shoots for brands such as Rocawear had become her norm.

Michelle Downer (born 1 April 1978),[2] commonly known as D'Angel, is a Jamaicanreggae singer, actress, model, and brand ambassador.[3] She has also given motivational speeches. In 2017, she released No Worries with Spice.[4]The Gleaner calls her the First Lady of dancehall.[5]
Biography
Born in Spanish Town, Jamaica, Downer sang in high school, modeled internationally in the 1990s, and returned home to Jamaica in 2002.[3] D'Angel's father, Noel "Clive" Downer, was a local entrepreneur.[6] D'Angel has an associate degree in Accounting and Management.[7] She considers 2004 and 2005 to be her "breakout years," according to The Gleaner.[8]
D’Angel had a celebrity marriage to singer, Beenie Man, in 2006 and they recorded the single One Man together.[3] D'Angel and Beenie Man had a son together and split up in 2010, later reunited in 2011.[9] They later divorced.[10]
