Joseph Kosinski is an American film director known for his stunning, lifelike computer graphics work. He is the director of TRON: Legacy, a sequel to TRON, and was on board to direct a third TRON movie before Disney canceled the project.
Biography[]
Born in Iowa to parents Patricia and John, Kosinski is an alumnus of Columbia Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) and is an adjunct assistant professor of architecture focusing on 3D modeling and graphics. He moved to Los Angeles, California, in 2005. His spouse is Kristin Kosinski.[1]

Originally a specialist in motion picture 3D graphics, Joseph Kosinski made the jump into film direction with Tron: Legacy (2010), Disney’s successful reboot of the long-dormant Tron property (1982) which earned over $400 million worldwide and co-starred Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, and Olivia Wilde. Kosinski stayed in science fiction for his next effects-heavy project, Oblivion (2013), based on his own graphic novel and starring Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, and Andrea Riseborough. He shifted to the real world for a portrait of elite firefighters on the front lines of a raging Arizona wildfire, Only the Brave (2017), with Josh Brolin, Jeff Bridges, Miles Teller, and Jennifer Connelly.

Joseph Kosinski (born May 3, 1974)[1] is an American film director, best known for his computer graphics and computer-generated imagery (CGI) work, and for his work in action films. He has directed the films Tron: Legacy (2010), Oblivion (2013), Only the Brave (2017), Top Gun: Maverick (2022) and Spiderhead (2022). His previous work has primarily been with CGI-related television commercials including the "Starry Night" commercial for Halo 3[2] and the award-winning "Mad World" commercial for Gears of War.[3]
Life and career
Kosinski grew up in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Patricia (née Provost) of French-Canadian descent, and Joel Kosinski, a doctor of Polish descent.[4][5][6][7]
His first major film was the special effects-heavy Tron: Legacy.[8][9] The film was in Disney Digital 3-D and IMAX 3D, with a release of December 2010 and grossed $400 million worldwide.[10]
