Continuing the legacy of amazing females in broadcasting passed down from Georgia Davis, founder of TEGNA’s KTVB in Boise, Idaho, Emmy-Award-Winning Darci Strickland is one of the most popular TV news anchors at WLTX-TV in Columbia, South Carolina. Her infectious smile and commitment to community service are only outweighed by her passion for serving the people through her work at News 19.
Darci joined WLTX-TV in 1997 and currently co-anchors the Noon broadcast, Friends at Five with Andrea Mock, and co-anchors the 6 pm broadcast with J.R. Berry. In addition to her role as anchor, she frequently works on special assignments and is the main spokesperson for Buddy Call 19, a station project aimed at raising awareness of breast cancer and the need for monthly self-checks. In addition, she also spearheads the recognition of great educators through the Teacher of the Week awards.

Darci Strickland, ’97 SJMC alumna and award-winning journalist for WLTX Columbia, has always been naturally curious, but never considered journalism as a career until she was in college. After transferring to USC for her second year of college, Strickland switched from engineering to journalism.
“We’re living in a better place because I’m not building bridges,” she said with a laugh.
After 25 years in broadcast journalism, Strickland says it has become more of a challenge in recent years.
“We are living in an age where journalism has never been more important,” Stickland says. “But ... people are less likely to believe what they hear.” She counters this challenge by always being viewer-centered, solution oriented, honest and unbiased.
Strickland, no stranger to awards, finds greater meaning by making a difference in the community with her work. The Regional Murrow Award was awarded to her and her team for reporting on a child losing his life as a result of Department of Social Services policy errors. The reporting

Catherine Darcy Strickland, Tupelo, MS – Darcy died peacefully, surrounded by family at her home on Thursday, January 18, 2024, just 13 days before her 90th birthday. She was born January 31, 1934, in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada to Elmer Robertson Puddington and Katherine Huntress Dyer.
Darcy had the grades to graduate as valedictorian of her high school but because of her tendency to stutter and afraid to give a speech, she relinquished to the salutatorian. She graduated from University of King’s College in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1954, majoring in History and Political Science.
Darcy met her husband, Norris Strickland, while he was stationed at the Presque Isle Air Force Base in Presque Isle, Maine. She maintained her Canadian citizenship after she was married, and they moved to the United States in 1955.
While raising a family of eight children, she was a teacher in Rothesay, New Brunswick, Canada; Presque Isle and Bangor, Maine; Niagara Falls, New York; and Red Bay,
